Oldham Council prosecutes rodent-infested restaurant owner

Personal injury solicitors Oldham have praised the good work of Oldham Council's Environmental Health officers in protecting the safety of the public.

The no win no fee solicitors Oldham at Clearwater Solicitors will collaborate with the local authority's Environmental Health team when dealing with personal injury claims relating to food poisoning, so they can gather evidence and give claimants the best possible chance of winning their cases.

On May 16th, an investigation by the council's Environmental Health officers revealed that in the Taj Palace Restaurant on Kings Street in Oldham had an uncontrolled mouse infestation and poor cleaning standards. Despite the fact that problems had been brought to the attention of Mohammed Saleem, the restaurant's owner, there was no food safety management system in the establishment.

On October 9th, Mr Saleem was fined £8,000 with costs of £2,525 and a £200 victim charge in a hearing at Oldham Magistrates Court. This was not the first time he had been to this court - he had previously pleaded guilty to four breaches of the Food Hygiene Act (England) Regulations 2006.

Personal injury solicitors Oldham are pleased to have a role to play in driving up food hygiene standards within the town, but the work of the Environmental Health team is particularly important. Mr Saleem had previously been warned about the need for improvements in July 2012, and these improvements had been undertaken with the supervision of specialists from the council, but the May 2013 inspection revealed that standards had fallen again.

Cabinet Member for Cooperatives and Neighbourhoods Councillor Jean Stretton said she was disappointed that a prominent company within the town centre had put people in danger of food poisoning due to unhygienic, dirty conditions.

Maintaining good standards of cleanliness is vital in all businesses and is especially important in the food preparation industry. While most of the food poisoning cases seen by no win no fee solicitors Oldham involve claimants that make a full recovery, people can easily develop diseases with lifelong or fatal complications after eating contaminated food. Tragically, these illnesses and injuries can be completely avoidable.
