Free flu jabs on offer in Lancashire

Lancashire County Council is offering members of the public free flu jabs, and personal injury solicitors Preston would encourage people to take advantage of them.

People who are deemed to be 'at risk' may also be able to receive the inoculation at their chemist. At risk groups include people with certain medical conditions, older people, very young children and pregnant women. This year marks the first time that children aged two and three will be eligible for free flu vaccinations.

In north and central Lancashire in 2012, over 75% of people aged over 65 were vaccinated against the flu, and the county council wants to keep this figure high this year. The county council's head of health protection Debbie Wright said that the local authority is also concerned about the low number of vaccinated people of all at-risk groups throughout east Lancashire, with the number of vaccinated people in east Lancashire lower than the UK's average.

Furthermore, there are concerns about the relatively low number of pregnant women receiving the jab.
No win no fee solicitors Preston advise people who were already inoculated last year that they will still need to have the jab this year, as the old vaccination will not protect them against the new flu strains that have emerged this year.

Nasal spray vaccinations are also available this year, and children aged two or three can receive these for free from GP practices. This range of new treatment options means it is now easier than ever for people to vaccinate themselves against the flu.

While most people will be able to cope with the flu without any serious medical problems, vulnerable groups can experience severe complications, which can be fatal. Personal injury solicitors Preston recommend that anyone who works with these vulnerable groups should visit their local GP to enquire about the flu

vaccination. If they begin to feel like they are coming down with the flu or any other transmissible illness, it is strongly advisable that they do not go to work, as this could cause the disease to spread with potentially devastating consequences.

Fire service teaches Horwich mothers first aid

The fire service has taught new mothers skills in basic first aid - something personal injury solicitors Preston note could one day save a child's life.

In Horwich Resource Centre on December 5th, Blue Watch firefighters provided a Headstart course to the facility's Mums 4 Mums and Tots Group. During the two-hour course, members of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service successfully trained 16 mothers and fathers in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and in life support.

Firefighters also answered any questions parents had about first aid treatment, care and paediatrics, and provided general advice that no win no fee solicitors Preston believe could support them in ensuring the health and safety of their children.

Participants also received a certificate which recognised the fact that they have developed new skills that could one day see them saving a life.

Bury Has Lowest Number Of Vermin Call-Outs In Greater Manchester

As vermin infestations can lead to food poisoning personal injury claims, no win no fee solicitors Bury welcome data from the British Pest Control Association (BCPA), which showed the region saw the smallest number of call-outs in the ten Greater Manchester regions analysed.
In 2011 to 2012, Bury Council's pest control specialists were called to 2,062 incidents, compared to the 5,075 cases seen by Bolton Council, the 6,137 seen by Manchester City Council, and the 2,411 handled by Trafford Council.

Over the year, the council dealt with 632 call outs for rats, 331 for mice, 3 for other mammals, 181 for ants, 724 for wasps, 38 cases of bedbugs, 8 cases of cockroaches, 35 cases involving other insects, 4 bird infestations and 106 other pests.

No win no fee solicitors Bury explained that there are a range of different factors that could lead to pest infestations and could be responsible for Bury's apparently low levels, and that the low levels are not necessarily due to the hard work of council officers.

However, there are some measures the council has taken that could be behind the low levels of pest problems in Bury. A spokesman for the council told the Bury Times that the local authority has a "proactive sewage treatment regime".

Furthermore, it looks at rat problem reports and performs treatments and monitoring until the issue has been controlled, the representative added.

Chief Executive of the BCPA Simon Forrester said that infestations must be quickly and properly dealt with, warning that they will spread if this does not happen. Dealing with these larger infestations is much more costly and poses additional risks to the health and safety of the public, he added.

Personal injury solicitors Preston warn businesses and authorities that they must not become complacent about pest infestations. The BCPA notes that as many as half of all Norway rats - otherwise known as the common brown rat and the most populous rat in the country - carry leptospirosis, or Weils disease. This condition, which is transmitted through urine, can lead to kidney failure and death, and recently took the life of Olympic gold medallist Andy Holmes.

Drivers 'must watch speed' in storms

Personal injury solicitors Lytham St Annes are warning people to watch their speed when driving in the coming stormy weather.

It is best to delay a journey or make alternative plans during severely adverse weather, but people who have to drive should drive at a slower speed than they normally would. Doing so will allow them to respond to any distractions that arise, such as debris that is blown into the road, and will help them control their vehicle should it get caught in any strong winds.

Cyclists in particular could find they are blown off course in strong wind, no win no fee solicitors Lytham St Annes add.

People should also pack an emergency kit in their car during severe weather. This should contain high-vis clothing, which is warm and waterproof, a medical kit, and a fully-charged mobile phone.
Drivers should also plan their journey in advance and listen to the weather reports. The high winds could see roads and bridges temporarily clothes.

The shoreline could be particularly dangerous, personal injury solicitors Lytham St Annes note, and the Fylde coast could be one of the most dangerous in the UK during the coming storm.

Alcohol warning for teens in Lancashire

Alcohol is a dangerous drug that is all-too-regularly a factor in the compensation claims personal injury solicitors Preston handle. Recent research by Lancashire County Council's Trading Standards department has shown that young people in the district could be putting themselves at unnecessary risk by consuming excessive alcohol.

A poll involving 3,500 youngsters conducted by the council found that among people aged between 14 and 17, 45% said that they drink alcohol in order to get drunk. This is putting youngsters in the district in a lot of danger:

- 12% said they have been in a car that was driven by a drunk-driver
- 25% have had sex that they later regretted because they were drunk
- 38% said that drunkenness made them lose control of themselves
- 25% said they have been in a fight or are violent when they are drunk

However, no win no fee solicitors Preston are pleased to see that the number of under-18s who do not drink in the district is rising. Overall, 38% of 14 to 17s said they do not drink alcohol at all, compared with just 20% of respondents to the poll in 2011.

Personal injury solicitors Preston frequently hear complaints that young people nowadays drink too much and are binge-drinkers, but the statistics revealed by Lancashire County Council indicate this is not the case and that young people should not be negatively labeled in such a way.

Be Careful Travelling Home For Christmas, Personal Injury Solicitors London Warn

Personal injury solicitors London warn anyone driving home for Christmas to take care while on the road.
Research from Ocean Finance found that while 47% of people live within just 20 miles of where they originally grew up, nearly one-third (31%) of British adults are more than 100 miles away from the place they grew up.

This means that around 15.5 million people will have to go more than 100 miles away if they wish to spend Christmas in their childhood residence. No win no fee solicitors London note the problem is particular significant in London and the South East, with 35% of people living 100 miles away from their parents. The proportion in Scotland was also 35%, and these locations were only beaten by the East of England, at 36%.
People who are over 65 were also found to be more likely to live far away from their childhood home, with 36% living at least 100 miles away. The study showed that 31% of 18 to 24-year-olds live in just a five-mile radius of their parent's house, but this is just 19% among those aged 55 to 64 and 15% among people older than 65.

However, these people may not have to travel through the icy and snowy roads for Christmas, as Ocean Finance pointed out there is a chance that instead, their relatives could be making the journey to the older generations' homes instead.

People move across the country for a huge range of reasons, including a desire for independence, for work, for relationships, or just to experience new regions and new ways of life. In fact, 8% of people polled said they would have to travel for more than 500 miles or go overseas if they wanted to go back to their childhood residence.

While not everyone will be driving home for Christmas, personal injury solicitors London ask those that are to take regular breaks and drive at a speed appropriate to the road condition. They should also perform basic winter safety checks, such as by checking the tyre pressure and antifreeze levels. If possible, they should look at alternative transportation options - they may find a journey on the train or on a coach is actually far more enjoyable for everyone!

Flood warning for Blackburn residents

Personal injury solicitors Blackburn are underlining the local authority's warnings about the dangers of driving through flood water.

Following the results of a survey by the Environmental Agency and the AA, which found that 680,000 motorists in the UK would disregard a 'road closed' warning to carry on travelling down a flooded road instead of taking a detour, Clearwater Solicitors' no win no fee solicitors Blackburn are asking people who drive through flood-prone area to think ahead, rather than put their own personal safety at risk.

The research also showed that people between the ages of 55 and 64 are the most likely to choose to drive through deep water with noticeable currents. This is despite the fact that people can lose their lives by driving through such dangerous water, with a huge number of personal injury claims relating to this risky behaviour.

Choosing personal safety over speed could be the difference between life and death, personal injury solicitors Blackburn are warning, as the UK braces itself against the potential consequences of a devastatingly catastrophic winter of high snowfalls, low temperatures and strong winds.

Eliminate drink-driving by 'None for the Road'

The drink and drug driving campaign for Manchester this year is 'None for the Road', and personal injury solicitors Manchester ask people to heed its message.

Stockport Road Safety Unit, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and Salford Council Road Safety Team are collaborating for the campaign. There will be events at MediaCity, including a driving and motor vehicle accident car crash simulator.

Alcohol was a factor in 336 road accidents in Greater Manchester over 2012. A total of 265 of people suffered minor personal injuries in these collisions, but 66 caused serious injuries and five people lost their lives.

Although it is permissible for people to drive after consuming a small amount of alcohol, the message of the campaign is that the only safe amount for drivers to drink is absolutely nothing.

But no win no fee solicitors Manchester are reminding people that the dangers of drink driving do not simply relate to the risks of road traffic accidents - offenders could find their license revoked or could even go to jail if they are found to be driving over the limit. Last year, GMP's festive operation to test motorists for drug and alcohol intoxication saw 11,230 drivers breathalysed, with 464 of these either refusing to take the test or testing positive.

Be flood-safe in Lytham St Annes, personal injury solicitors say

With gale-force winds hitting the UK and with many areas likely to see localised flooding in the next few days, especially coastal areas, personal injury solicitors Lytham St Annes advise people to take precautions to reduce the likelihood of injuries or property damage.

Clearwater Solicitors, a team of no win no fee solicitors Lytham St Annes, provide the following advice to homeowners and businesses in flood-prone areas:

-          Move electrical items and valuable items out of harm's way. This might be in a friend's house, in a storage unit, or simply upstairs.

-          Buy sandbags. Sandbags and floor boards can be used to block doorways and keep flood water out of your property.

-          Check that water can escape through outside drains. Unblock any blocked drains and clear guttering of any debris.

-          If your business is prone to flooding, consider flooding in risk assessments and take steps to minimise the potential damage floodwater and slippery flooring could cause to your employees and other people who may be affected by your business.

Greater Manchester Sees Four Electrical Fires in 24 Hours

Personal injury solicitors Manchester are urging people to check their electrical appliances, as Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service revealed it went to four different electrical fires on November 14th.
One of the fires occurred in Little Hulton at 11.44pm. This fire destroyed a bedroom and caused significant damage to the rest of the property, and is believed to have originated in a radio.

Another fire occurred at 7pm and saw a 64-year-old female and 66-year-old man escorted from their Withington flat. The fire had already been extinguished when the emergency services arrived, but both victims required hospital treatment and oxygen. This fire was thought to have been caused by an electrical surge.
Earlier in the day, a man had to leap three floors to escape a fire in a house in Swindon, with this blaze also caused by electrical problems.

At 10.53pm, the fire service dealt with a fire in Stockport that was believed to have been caused by a malfunctioning electrical blanket. A 15-year-old girl suffered smoke inhalation and required hospital treatment, while three other people were given oxygen at the scene.

Preston Biker Jailed For Horror Crash

A horrific crash in Preston has underlined the dangers of reckless driving.

Martin Winstanley, of Chorley's Kingsley Drive, was jailed for two years in a hearing at Preston Crown Court after being found guilty of dangerous driving and possession of cocaine, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.

Winstanley lost his leg in a motorcycle accident on April 20th, as he rode his Suzuki GSR600 motorcycle on Chorley Lane. He lost control when overtaking a Volkswagen Golf and ran into a BT cable box.
He then collided with Anne Grand, who was putting her bin out at the time. Ms Grand, 59, was seriously injured in the collision and needed to spend several weeks in hospital.
Personal injury solicitors Preston note that motorcyclists in particular need to take exceptional care when on the road. While Winstanley required an above-knee leg amputation as a result of the road traffic accident, he was fortunate to have not lost his life.

Bury seasonal flu vaccination underway

With the seasonal flu vaccination campaign underway, personal injury solicitors Bury are reminding people who are eligible to receive the inoculation that they should do so as soon as possible.
People who may be eligible for free flu vaccines include people over the age of 65, pregnant women, and people with long-term health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma. Carers and residents of nursing and residential homes are also able to receive the vaccination.

Most people who come down with the flu will not face any serious health problems, but will need to take some time off work and will feel particularly unwell for around a week. Certain demographics can develop complications from the flu, such as chest infections, and these can progress into serious, potentially life-threatening conditions. No win no fee solicitors Bury are asking all these people to ensure they receive the inoculation before it is too late, even if they feel like their health and fitness is at a good level and that they can handle the flu.

Local GPs across Bury are keen to encourage all applicable patients to receive the flu vaccine before this season's flu strains become widespread. The inoculation is not only potentially a life-saver, but is free and very safe.

Schools across the borough are also offering pupils aged between four and 11 years old a nasal flu vaccination, which can be administered within schools. So far, 9,000 children in Bury have received this vaccination. Not only willthis prevent children from developing the flu, but it will also reduce the disease's transmission, as school children are some of the biggest spreaders of the influenza virus.
Bury is one of just six areas nationwide that is offering schoolchildren the nasal flu vaccination. Personal injury solicitors Bury are pleased that the town has this distinction, and hope the scheme is successfully replicated across the UK next year.

Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims event held in Preston

Personal injury solicitors Preston extend their sympathies to anyone who has had to make a road traffic accident claim in the town, following an emotional service in the city's County Hall on November 17th.
The service marked World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, and was one service of thousands held internationally. The day aims to honour the hard work of emergency service personnel and to mark the lives of everyone who has died in motor vehicle accidents.

Friends and families of people across Lancashire attended the service, and were welcomed by chairman of Lancashire County Council Michael Devaney and representatives from the ambulance, police and fire services and from Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackpool Council.

No win no fee solicitors Preston hope people took the opportunity of the remembrance day to consider their responsibilities towards other road users and to take every effort to prevent road traffic accidents from occurring.

Don't go to GPs unless you need to, Blackburn residents warned

With residents across East Lancashire, Darwen and Blackburn encouraged to take care for their families and themselves over the winter, personal injury solicitors Blackburn are asking the public to stock up on painkillers or cold and flu relief to prevent GPs surgeries and hospitals from becoming clogged up.

People in vulnerable groups, such as very young children, older people, people with certain health problems, and carers, may be able to receive an inoculation against the flu from their GP or from a pharmacy.

Every year, around 57 million visits to the GP involve just minor health problems. These take up around one hour of the average GP's time every working day and cost the NHS around £2 billion. In many cases, these visits could have been prevented had otherwise healthy people allowed flus or colds to wait for the condition to run its course or had bought over-the-counter remedies at the pharmacy.

In Darwen and Blackburn alone, around £600,000 is spent every year on prescribing medicines for minor illnesses. No win no fee solicitors Blackburn advise GPs to take care when dismissing someone's health problems as just minor illnesses if they are convinced it is something more serious, but would ask people to only visit the doctor if they think they have a long-lasting or dangerous illness that they require specialist treatment for.

Wood Recycling Firm Fined After Man Dies In Load Shovel Accident

A Manchester wood recycling firm received a huge fine for the death of a worker in an accident at work, and personal injury solicitors Manchester would like other companies to learn lessons from this incident.
Raymond Thomas Burns, a 43-year-old from Eston, was working at UK Wood Recycling Ltd's premises in Wilton, Redcar, when he was struck by a 'load shovel' loading vehicle, which was transporting material across the site.

Mr Burns had been walking to a skip after working on a wood pile when he was struck by the load shovel. He died at the scene.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the business had not put measures in place to segregate vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the site. This left members of staff unprotected from moving vehicles, and had led to a number of other near misses and vehicle collisions at the workplace. No win no fee solicitors Manchester would urge any businesses that use moving vehicles to ensure that effective vehicle traffic / pedestrian traffic segregation measures are in place.

UK Wood Recycling Led, of Lumb Farm in the Little Moss area of Droylsden, admitted breaching the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulatgions and was fined £200,000 with an additional £34,000 in costs.

Stay Safe on Nights Out, Personal Injury Solicitors Warn

Many of the criminal injuries compensation claims that personal injury solicitors Preston see involve alcohol. Although the victims of crime are never to blame for the crime solely because of the fact that they were drunk, it is an unavoidable fact that alcohol makes people vulnerable.

As a result, no win no fee solicitors Preston have offered advice that you can follow to stay safe on a night out.

- Do not accept drinks from anyone you do not trust
- Do not exchange drinks or share drinks
- Keep an eye on your drink at all times, even when going to the toilet
- Drink soft drinks for a while if you begin to get drunk
- Eat a full meal before drinking, as this will prevent you from becoming too drunk too quickly
- Pace your alcohol intake
- Go into town with friends and leave with friends
- Designate a place as a meeting point, so you can find your friends if you become lost

Many criminal injuries claims arise when people are victimised by criminals on the way home from a night out. You should always try to get a taxi home if possible, although you may be able to use late-night public transport services. Be careful when walking home from bus stops.

Attend organised Bonfire Night events, personal injury solicitors Rochdale advise

Personal injury solicitors Rochdale are asking people to visit council-held fireworks displays and Bonfire Night events, rather than holding their own.

The risk of accidental injury is very high over Guy Fawkes' Night, and Clearwater Solicitors - a team of no win no fee solicitors Rochdale - are expecting to see a number of painful and serious injuries caused by reckless and negligent use of fireworks, or careless use of fire.

This year, organised Bonfire Night events in Rochdale include:

-          Cronkeyshaw Common, Syke, October 30th
-          Cherwell Avenue, October 31st
-          Mayfield Rugby Club, November 1st
-          Rochdale Cricket Club, November 9th

There will also be a number of Bonfire Night events in the towns and cities outside Rochdale. It is always far safer to go to an organised display than for a person to hold their own - organised displays reach strict safety standards, whereas home displays can be considerably more dangerous. People who are injured at organised displays may also have a better chance of success in personal injury claims - no win no fee solicitors Rochdale point out that the organisers of these displays will have public liability insurance policies, which will make it easier for people to claim compensation if they are injured due to negligence.

Many Brits in insecure homes, study shows

Personal injury solicitors Rochdale are reminding people to ensure their household is properly secured, especially as the dark nights draw in and the fear of criminality increases.

Research by MoneySuperMarket revealed many Brits are failing to adhere to even the most basic home protection strategies, with 1.6 million people, or 3% of the nation, actually leaving a spare key to their home under the doormat. This means that criminals - who may be planning worse than a burglary - only need to check 33 doormats before they find a key to enter a property.

Furthermore, a massive 25% of people admitted occasionally leaving their windows and doors unlocked when the house is unoccupied, making the building a target for criminals. No win no fee solicitors Rochdale know that many criminals are opportunistic, and seeing an open window could be all it takes for them to decide to break into a building.

Social media poses new risks to home security, with 17% of people aged 18 to 34 saying they post on social networking sites when they are going to be away from home. Many high-profile burglaries have occurred due to this issue, with footballers and celebrities finding that these Tweets and Facebook posts can see their houses ransacked.

Bonfire Night in Manchester One Of The Safest For Years

Personal injury solicitors Manchester are pleased to hear that November 5th appears to have been one of the safest bonfire nights the city has seen for years, with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service only responding to 306 calls.

This compares with 649 calls in 2012, 651 calls in 2011, 437 calls in 2010 and 564 calls in 2009.
Furthermore, the vast majority of the call-outs the fire service responded to were small rubbish fires that had grown out of control, were too close to other structures such as buildings, or were not properly supervised by adults.

The busiest time of the day was between 8pm and 9om, when fire crews answered 56 different calls. Between 6pm and 11pm, the fire service received a total of 174 calls.

No win no fee solicitors Manchester believe that public safety campaigns may have had an impact, with many revelers choosing to visit safer organised displays, such as that at Heaton Park.
The most serious Bonfire-related incident the fire service responded to was in Bolton, where they were called to Hardmans, in the Bromley Cross area.

Preston consumers warned to 'check' used cars before sales so they don't 'regret it'

Personal injury solicitors cash advance Preston would like to reassert the importance of checking the safety of used cars, as Lancashire Trading Standards takes part in the 'Check it, don't regret it' campaign.
No win no fee solicitors Preston occasionally see road traffic accident claims advance payment involving faulty used cars that were missold to the buyer, and Lancashire Trading Standards received more than 700 complaints about used cars in the last 123 months.

Buyers must not feel pressured into buying a car before performing some basic and essential checks, such as by examining the service history, the MOT certificate and the car's V5 registration documents.
Furthermore, second-hand car dealers must be honest and up-front with any potential customers so that people can make a fully informed decision before going ahead with a sale.

Second-hand vehicles with faults can put the health and safety of the driver, their family, their friends and the general public at risk, and personal injury solicitors Preston know that simple safety checks could easily have prevented many of these injuries from occurring.

The 'Check it, don't regret it' campaign began this week and will continue over a fortnight. It will involve promotions, advertisements and awareness-raising to ensure that people are certain used cars are legal, safe and what they appear to be before they buy it.

Man prosecuted for failing to take drink-driving test

With a father of four from Bolton convicted of failing to provide a test for drink-driving, personal injury solicitors Bolton would like to remind motorists of the dangers of driving while drunk.
Mark McGreevy, a landscape gardener from Walter Avenue, was fined £250 with costs of £200 and a £25 victim surcharge at Blackpool Magistrates Court. He was also banned from driving for 28 months, the Lytham St Anne's Express reported.

He could not provide a breath test due to his asthma, and said a fear of needles prevented him from giving a blood test, but he also failed to provide a urine sample for analysis. Officers received reports of a car crash on June 22nd at approximately 8pm, and arrived at the scene at North Houses Lane to discover McGreevy staggering along the road. Investigators believe that his car had mounted the grass verge after failing to negotiate a bend, which blew out the engine and a Tyre.

McGreevy admitted that he thought he might have gotten away with drink-driving by refusing to provide a sample and that he knew he was over the limit.

In 2012, figures from the Department forTransport show 250 people lost their lives in road accidents involving drink-drivers A total of 68% of these deaths were riders and drivers who were intoxicated at the time of the collision, with the remaining 32% other people who were involved in the accident, such as passengers or innocent road users. Personal injury solicitors Bolton are concerned that drink-driving is still going on in the district.

This marks an annual increase in the number of deaths caused by drink driving. In 2011, 220 people lost their lives. Furthermore, fewer drink drive accidents occurred in 2011 than did in 2012 - while there were 6,680 accidents involving drink drivers in 2011, there were 6,690 in 2012.

Just one death or injury involving a drink driver is too many, and despite huge campaigns against drink driving, there are still many road users who drive while drunk and cause preventable motor vehicle accidents.

Burnley Beautified By Love Where You Live Campaign

The Love Where You Live campaign has been given the thumbs up by personal injury solicitors Burnley.
Radio station 2BR and Burnley Council collaborated to ask residents of the borough to nominate locations that needed cleaning, such as those that attract littering and fly-tipping. Clearwater Solicitors, a no win no fee solicitors Burnley practice, point out that not only is this initiative beautifying the area and making the town more pleasant to live in and walk through, but it is also improving public safety and reducing the local authority's liability in personal injury claims.

So far, the ten most frequently nominated sites have been visited and cleaned up, with Stanley Street and Gannow Top roundabout receiving special attention, including help from Veolia Environmental Services. Not only did they pick up litter, but they also cut back any overgrown vegetation, creating safe areas for the local community to enjoy.

The Love Where You Live scheme was launched by Keep Britain Tidy and involves initiatives across the UK. It aims to encourage members of the public to make the place they live the kind of place they would like it to be, making communities safer, cleaner and more pleasant to live in. Poor maintenance of public land and poor standards of cleanliness or litter prevention are common factors in slip and trip payment in advance claims or other personal injury claims seen by personal injury solicitors Burnley, making the campaign a positive force for public safety.

Motorcyclist Dies In Bury Road Traffic Accident

Following the tragic death of Gary Bell, personal injury solicitors Bury would like to remind drivers and motorcyclists to look out for each other.

Motorcyclist Mr Bell, 23, was in a road traffic accident on Friday November 1st at around 10:30, and he died of his injuries the next day in Salford Royal Hospital.

It is believed that he was riding his white Yamaha motorbike on Bond Street when the accident happened. He overtook a vehicle and collided with a Toyota at the Bond Street / Walsh Lane junction, sustaining serious chest and head injuries. Police are appealing for information.

No win no fee solicitors Bury know that the risk of motorcyclist accidents will increase over winter, and would like to provide the following advice.

Motorcyclists:
-          Wear bright clothing
-          Ride defensively
-          Maximise visibility
-          Wear protective equipment, including the right helmet
-          Stay observant and alert
-          Glance over your shoulder before performing any manoeuvres
-          Ensure you can slow down or stop if you have to
Drivers:
-          Look out for bikes
-          Take time to check for motorcyclists at junctions or when merging
-          Don't drive too close to motorcyclists
-          Keep aware of motorcyclists when turning into new roads
-          Remember motorcyclists can pass on either side
-          Park in a safe and considerate fashion and check for motorcyclists when opening your doors

Don't gamble with used cars, National Consumer Week warns

With National Consumer Week beginning on November 4th, personal injury solicitors Bolton would like to echo the warnings of Trading Standards North West and advise people to take care when buying second-hand cars.

People ought to ask themselves three key questions when purchasing new cars:

-          Is it safe?
-          Is it what I want?
-          Is it legal?

There are a number of checks that must be done to ensure this is the case. These are:

-          MOT checks
-          Service history checks
-          Registration document checks
-          Finance history check
-          Write off check
-          Car recalled checks
-          Price value guide checks
-          Engineers checks
-          Walk around checks
-          Test-drives

Be Prepared For Winter, No Win No Fee Solicitors Blackburn Warn

With winter fast approaching, personal injury solicitors Blackburn would advise people to begin getting ready for the cold weather as soon as possible.

So how can you prepare for winter? The following tips should help:

  1.           Prepare vehicles and buildings for the cold weather
  2.           Take personal responsibility for your own health and well being
  3.       Look out for friends and family, especially those in vulnerable groups such as the elderly or people with chronic health problems
  4.           Keep aware of the weather forecast and any Met Office weather warnings
  5.           Be ready to change your plans if you have to

No win no fee solicitors Blackburn would strongly advise people to occasionally visit the Met Office's website and to heed its warnings. The Met Office works alongside contingency planners, the government, the voluntary sector and other partner organisations to ensure it has the best possible advice available, helping the general public and businesses deal with the hazards posed by severe weather conditions.

No win no fee solicitors Blackburn warn against drinking Zam Zam water

Personal injury solicitors Blackburn would urge members of the public to avoid drinking Zam Zam water.
Zam Zam water should come from Saudi Arabia, where it is sourced from the Well of Zam Zam in Mecca. Muslims consider Zam Zam water sacred, believing that the water is miraculously sourced by God, and that the well has never gone dry despite producing millions of gallons of water every year.

However, it is illegal to export Zam Zam water from Saudi Arabia for sale, so any such water available in the UK could come from anywhere. Tests have shown that this water may contain dangerously high levels of nitrates or arsenic, which could lead to serious illness or death, and personal injury solicitors Blackburn, would strongly advise people to avoid drinking it.

Chief Trading Standards Officer for Lancashire County Council Paul Noone recently revealed that a large consignment of this water has been imported into Lancashire, with the local authority working with any businesses involved in this consignment to ensure the water is not sold for human consumption.

Clearwater Solicitors, a team of no win no fee solicitors Blackburn; warn that drinking Zam Zam water could lead to a range of serious diseases, including cancer. While the risks posed by drinking a small amount of this water are very low, they become exponentially greater when more water is consumed. There are no safe levels of arsenic in drinking water, but recent tests on Zam Zam water have shown the levels of arsenic within this water could be three times the amount legally permissible.

Quietway routes 'should improve cyclist safety in London'

Personal injury solicitors London have welcomed moves to make the borough of Haringey safer for cyclists.
A network of 'Quietway' routes will be developed for cyclists in the region. These will use direct, quiet back streets to provide high-quality, guided travel around Haringey, connecting central London and other major centres together.

While these routes are still currently in development, with more details set to be announced in the immediate future, no win no fee solicitors London practice Clearwater Solicitors are pleased with the news that bike riding in Haringey will soon be considerably safer.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson aims for cycling to represent a 5% modal share of London's traffic by 2026, with trends indicating that this is target is set to be outstripped. In 2001, just 77,300 people in London reported that they commuted by cycling, but in 2011, this figure had more than doubled to reach 154,900.
So far in 2013, eight people have lost their lives in cycling accidents in the capital, while personal injury solicitors London have seen countless minor and serious injuries sustained by cyclist in the city this year.

HGVs, coaches and buses pose a particular risk to cyclists and are seen in around one-fifth of all cyclist fatalities and one-quarter of all serious cycling accidents in London. Other common factors in London cycling accident claims include cyclists going out into the roads or cutting across traffic, showing how important separate cyclist lanes are to improving the safety of cyclists.

Personal Safety Advice with No Win No Fee Solicitors Bolton

No win no fee solicitors Rochdale and brain injury claims

Head injuries can be some of the most serious cases personal injury solicitors Rochdale deal with, but some of the most sizable too. Very severe brain injuries can warrant personal injury claims of as much as £350,000 or higher, with claimants generally receiving more than £200,000.

However, as no win no fee solicitors Rochdale will surely tell them, the value of the claim will reflect the value of their damages and associated costs - the cost of living with a brain injury can be very expensive, and the aim of compensation is to bring the claimant back to the quality of life they would have previously achieved had the injury not occurred. This can be impossible for many people who have sustained serious head injuries, and the high compensation values reflect this fact.

Fatal brain injuries are very common, with personal injury solicitors Rochdale regularly seeing people who have lost a loved one due to this injury. Every year, one person in every 100,000 will die of a brain injury, while those who survive faced significantly higher death rates than the general population for as long as 13 years after the initial trauma. Overall, 40% of people with brain injuries will die within 13 years of the injury, compared with just 19% of people who will die within any given 13 years.

No win no fee solicitors London would like to join TfL in congratulating the eight schools that have demonstrated the highest commitment to STARS.

When the Glare of the Sun Leads To Road Traffic Accident Claims

A range of different factors lead to road traffic accident claims in the autumn, with no win no fee solicitors citing rainfall, leaves on the road and darker nights as some of these. However, the dangers posed by the sun are also significant, with Department for Transport (DfT) statistics finding that one in 33 of all reported motor vehicle accidents were caused by this risk in 2012.

This meant that over the year, a total of 2,905 road traffic accident claims were caused by glare from the sun. Of these, 423 were deemed to be serious, while 36 were fatal. In all, 52 of these accidents were on motorways, while 428 were on B roads and 1,203 were on A-roads. The remaining 1,222 were on other minor roads.

The risk of road traffic accident claims caused by glare from the sun depends on geographical factors. The DfT's statistics found that while in the UK, an average of 3% of all motor vehicle accidents are caused by glare from the sunlight, this proportion is just 1% in London but rises to 4% in the North East.
As a result, the AA has warned drivers that until the clocks go back on October 27th, they should be aware that the sunset may dazzle them on their commute home from work. This warning is echoed by personal injury solicitors, who note there are a lot of ways drivers can avoid being dazzled by the sunlight while behind the wheel.
