Getting A Discount On Your Farmers Car Insurance Could Be As Easy As Just Asking

Car insurance can be expensive, especially if you are a family with more than one car. If you are a family with more than one car and a teen driver in the house (or on the way), your bills can be very steep. It’s one reason why nearly every car insurance provider will offer you the chance to reduce your car insurance premium by applying for select insurance premium discounts.

Farmers is the nation’s 5th largest car insurance provider (as measured by direct premium and market share) and as with other leading insurers, it offers a host of ways you and your family can save on car insurance. If you are a current customer with Farmers, make sure your agent informs you about these discounts. (If you’re considering Farmers as a new option for your car insurance coverage, make sure the agent you’ve been speaking with let’s you know about these discounts.)
  • Bundle and save – when you combine your Farmers car insurance with another Farmers product (homeowners, renters, life, motorcycle, etc.) you can enjoy discounts on the premium for all your Farmers products.
  • Select professions and business groups – if you happen to belong to certain business organizations, associations, sororities/fraternities or trade groups, Farmers offers select discounts through an affinity program. You may also qualify for premium discounts if you work in select professions such as teaching, medicine, emergency services, first responders, nursing or dentistry (these vary from state to state so be sure to ask your agent.)
  • Shop & buy early – if you have requested a quote from Farmers for car insurance coverage and you go ahead and take on a new Farmers policy within 7 days of that quote (providing you haven’t let your existing/previous policy lapse) Farmers can extend you additional premium discounts.
  • Good students – if you are under the age of 25 and are a full-time student (high school, community college, college, etc.) Farmers adds an incentive for you to get and keep good grades as you and your family can enjoy some nice premium discounts if your grade point average is “B” or better (in some cases Farmers offers the discount if a student makes the Dean’s List, lands in the top 10 percent for all students at a school or passes an equivalency test.)
  • Safe & clean drivers – maintain a safe, clean driving record (no at-fault accidents and no point-inducing or major infractions) for a select period of time (even if you racked up the record with a previous insurance carrier) and you can earn additional discounts from Farmers (the length of time needed to qualify can vary from state to state and plan to plan.)
  • Multi-car plans – insure more than one car with Farmers and you can qualify for premium discounts for each car
  • Go green – if you drive and insure an alternative fuel vehicle (electric, bio-diesel, etc.) or if you drive and insure a hybrid car, Farmers will reward your good stewardship by extending additional car insurance premium discounts.
While it's possible (and encouraged) to combine as many discounts as you can to lower your monthly car insurance bill, Farmers is not able to offer all of these discounts (or all of the same percentages of each of these discounts) to drivers in every state. One quick way to find out if a discount is available in your state (and how much you maybe eligible for) is to use Farmer’s online quoting tool.

Visit the Farmers website. From there, you can plug in your zip code, plug in the levels and types of coverage you want and the tool will show you the discounts you may be eligible for. It’s an excellent way to lower your bills and get a sense of whether you truly are getting a good deal on your car insurance coverage.
